Scuba divers describe the PADI Rescue Diver course as the most challenging, yet most rewarding course they’ve ever taken. Why? Because you learn to prevent and manage problems in the water, and become more confident in your skills as a diver, knowing that you can help others if needed.


The PADI Rescue diver course covers dive accident scenarios, self-rescue skills, accident prevention and management. There is no denying that the rescue course is challenging – but it is also a lot of fun!

Over the course you will develop the knowledge and skills to manage dive accident situations, render necessary first aid and effectively perform diver assists and rescues. Developing self-confidence in your diving abilities and comfort in your equipment is paramount to you enjoying every dive.



Learning a range of in-water rescue skills including surfacing an unconscious diver, rescue breathing, how to handle a panicked diver and exiting an unresponsive diver. Develop teamwork, management and delegation skills as you and your classmates learn how to manage different accident 'scenarios' Learn how to use emergency equipment including SMBs and compass navigation to organise and conduct search patterns for missing divers Prepare an Emergency Assistance Plan for a local dive site using your training to source appropriate and accurate information An introduction to how to deal with suspected DCI or pressure related injuries through Oxygen provision.



The course price is $425 and includes:

  • E-learning access pass.
  • 2 full days tuition and certification fee.
  • Your PADI certification.
  • Combine with the Enriched Air Course for only $225


The PADI rescue diver program is conducted over a weekend. In order for you to learn as much as possible and get the greatest benefit from your training, you are required to complete the theory section of the PADI Open Water course prior to commencing the in-water training. You will be emailed an e-learning access pass on booking.

Everyday begins and ends at the Dive Centre. Saturday and Sunday 9am - 5pm each day.



The knowledge development portion of the course is conducted at the Dive Centre. Training dives are usually conducted at either Clovelly Pool or Bare Island. Although many of the skills involved with this course involve work on the surface, you will still be able to log 5 dives during the course. The majority of the larger and more expensive pieces of equipment are provided in the course cost. However, safety is of paramount importance to us and there are a few pieces of personal safety equipment that we require you to provide to become a Rescue Diver. Personal equipment: Mask, snorkel, boots & fins - required by DCB on all courses for hygiene and comfort. If you do not have your own, our staff will help you select some, off which you will receive a student discount. If you do not wish to purchase you could rent these items from us- this will be $50 for the duration of the course.

There are some other items that are not hirable but are highly recommended to enhance your enjoyment, safety and learning experience... Dive knife.

  • Underwater slate and pencil.
  • SMB & Reel.
  • Wrist mounted compass.


You must hold an Advanced Open Water certification. You must also have successfully completed a sanctioned course in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and basic first aid within the past 2 years (24 months). The Emergency First Response (EFR) program qualifies you for this and is offered as a package price with the rescue diver course for an additional $100. If you have completed your dive training with any other agency than PADI you must also show evidence of 20 logged dives.
