This video was shot with some friends from Okinawa Underwater Explorers, a group of GUE divers in Okinawa Japan. The islands, The Keramas, are about 1 hour boat ride from Okinawa, which is about 1000kms south from mainland Japan.

Thursday, January 15th, 2009

Well done to Sam, Ryan and Ian on completing the first GUE Fundamentals class of 2009 at DCB. Conditions were perfect at Bare Island and we had a great weekend of diving. Also great to see Jamie Obern over from NZ to complete some of hims last internships prior to his IE in March. Matt White also joined in on the first of his internships on becoming an instructor.

Florida Cave Diving

Tuesday, October 28th, 2008

Hi guys,

Over the last week I took my Cave 2 course with David Rhea in Florida. We spent the first 2 days in the cave around High Springs and dived in Peacock and the famous Ginnie Springs cave system. We then went north to Marianna in Jackson County and dived Jackson Blue, Twin Cave and Hole in the wall. The diving is truly beautiful in warm waters and great visibility. Cave diving requires a certain discipline not found in ocean diving requiring finesse in propulsion techniques, buoyancy and trim to prevent silting out the cave. This course covers complex navigation including jumps, traverses, and circuits, we also covered decompression and stage diving which allows further penetration into the systems. To access the GUE Cave classes you must be certified in GUE Fundamentals.

Hope you enjoy the photos and I will try to get some video soon!

Tec 1 is designed to prepare divers for the rigors of technical diving and to familiarize them with the use of different breathing and decompression mixtures. Congratulations to Phil, Nicole and Cassandra who embraced this challenging and rewarding course. I look forward to taking you on the ‘check out’ dive.
