On Friday the 23rdApril,  11 excited divers hit the road to drive down to Montague Island in Narooma for 3days worth of diving with the seals. Everyone was up early the following morning getting gear together ready for an 8am departure on our boat “DALLAS”.  Our skipper martin told us stories about the seals on the way out which made everyone even more keen to get into the water. As we pulled up to the island the view was amazing.. 300 or more seals were on the rocks or playing in the water!! We geared up very quickly and jumped in to begin our dive. I think everyone would agree with me that diving amongst seals is absolutely awesome.. they were go graceful and fast underwater, doing twists and turns and checking out all the divers! The more we all did spins the more excited the seals became!! We had another 5 dives with the seals after that dive, each dive was different as we would begin our dive with the seals then go off to explore other sections of the island and then come back to the seals for our safety stops. Other marine life that was spotted included a very friendly bull ray, eels, cuttle fish AND a grey nurse shark!!!! :D Many diving stories were shared over a BBQ on the Saturday night and I think a great weekend was had by all.. :D

Last weekend saw a fabulous group of people step up to the mark and meet the requirements of the PADI Rescue Diver certification. Congratulations to Fabio, Allen, Jeremie, Sean, and Kerstin!! The guys were challenged to (amongst other skills) effectively deal with panicked divers on the surface, find a missing diver and even surface an unconscious diver and removing them from the water while providing rescue ventilation. The course culminated in scenarios in which these and others skills had to be a applied to fairly realistic (though simulated) emergency situations.

We all had a fantastic time in what is a challenging yet very rewarding course. We look forward to seeing the guys in the water again soon!

Open Water 28th March

Congratulations to Greg, Mike, Mia, Dale, Anthony and Natalie who all completed their PADI Open Water Diver course on the weekend…and did so in style! Nice works guys, you all showed some really strong fundamental skills and it will be a pleasure to help you to further improve these in the Advanced course, something which many of you have decided to go on to. The conditions for the weekend were excellent with Sydney showing us just how nice it can be for diving  -  spoiling us with 12-15mts of visibility. We saw a variety of aquatic life ranging from Blue Gropers to Fiddler Rays and even a pair of Moorish Idols, normally found only in the tropics!

You’ll find a lot of the photos Preston’s kindly took of us on our Facebook site. www.facebook.com/divebondi

Thanks for making the weekend so much fun guys. Congratulations again and we look forward to seeing you in the water soon!
